’Climate-friendship’ project of the Magosfa Foundation and the Swiss myclimate

P1060889 Due to the Twinning and Partnership Block Grant/Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme, the Magosfa Foundation launched its Climate-friendship project in cooperation with myclimate-The Climate Protection Partnership, an outstanding, innovative Swiss organization with climate-protection profile. The project aims to fit children and their teachers for small but important steps they can make in the interest of sustainability, the Earth and its living beings, communities. As we believe in „small steps make up big ones”, we deem it important to start with school-children. Our project involves children by making climate protection-related issues interesting, action-oriented and interactive. The 3 main steps behind our method are: awareness-raising, action and sharing/exchange of experiences with partners.

By the deadline, 10 Hungarian schools applied to participate in the project. Up to present we have jointly realized a two-day workshop for Hungarian teachers, in which we discussed the importance of climate protection, endangering factors and opportunities. The teachers could get acquainted with educational methods in the field of sustainable consumption they can easily use at school lessons (drinking water, washing, local products, fair trade etc). Our Swiss partner introduced the ’Hot Stuff Climate Net’ programme and we also presented best practice in the field of climate protection.

The Hungarian schools will participate together with Swiss schools in an on-line competition with their own elaborated ideas, and children will vote for each other’s works. Each school is going to organize a climate-protection day. As a prize for the competition winners, 10-10 kids from Switzerland and from Hungary will take part in a „sustainability camp” organized by the Magosfa Foundation, but we are going to hold 3 additional camps during the summer for further 60 kids from Hungary. The camps will be held at Kismagos Environmental Education and Ecotourism Centre, situated in Kismaros, Hungary.
